Before you ask, we don’t do “cage fighting”

 

Taking the first step when starting something new is always the hardest part but you can be assured of a warm welcome when you come to our gym. For a start we know each and everyone by their first name, we are more like a group of friends and family that works really well together.

We have classes for men, women and children, the adults and children train in separate classes. If you are not ready to train in a class just yet, we teach private lessons too when times allows.

Please get in touch before you come down to train, don’t just turn up. If you come down to the gym to a session that may not suit you, you won’t be able to train and will have had a wasted journey. We are frequently full also so getting in touch will allow you to ascertain whether there is a place for you at the gym or not.

Please note also that Jiu Jitsu is a combat sport/martial art and although every care is taken there is still a chance that you may be injured, please check the Starting Jiu Jitsu section of this web site and understand that ALL students are strongly recommended to have valid, and relevant insurance.

We currently run all the adult classes with the gi/kimono (the traditional training uniform) except one, the Thursday class which is no gi (shorts and T-shirts). At the moment we are training 80% gi and 20% no gi, this is just my personal preference, if you want to see which suits you best try both then decide. There are plenty of ‘gi versus no gi’ arguments on the internet if you feel the need to investigate.

If you would like to train in the gi class but do not yet have a gi, you can always borrow a gi top from us. Just let me know beforehand that you are coming down and I can have a top waiting for you.

For continuity in training we will work on a specific topic for a certain amount of time to make sure everyone understands it. We achieve this in part because we will have the same content of the class on a Monday and Tuesday then do the no gi version of it on the Thursday. If you train all week you get to train the same thing 3 times which helps to get the technique into your muscle memory.

To continue training at Combat Base it is strongly recommended that all students have valid insurance and membership to cover all aspects of training, insurance and membership is purchased through us, please ask your instructor for details.

New Saturday Class Added

A class dedicated to the absolute fundamentals of Jiu Jitsu. Turn up for 11:15am, get yourself warmed up ready to start at 11:30am. Class is for one hour.

If you want to roll there will be sufficient time after class.

Adults classes are for anyone 16 years and above, juniors aged 14 or 15 years may be allowed to train in the adults class if they are suitable and have full parental consent.

Junior classes are for anyone 15 years and below.
